Sometimes it is necessary to unpublish old content and the related assets such as documents or images. We will look at albums for this example.
Find the asset locations
The first thing that is necessary to do is find out the locations of the assets, in this case, in the album.
- Open the album in edit mode
- Click the spanner to edit the album component
- Look at the Image from DAM or Image from Local tabs to see where the images are located, for instance:
/content/dam/doe/sws/schools/g/gumtree-h/banner/Gum_tree_banner.jpg
Keep a note of the location for later.
Unpublish the content
The next step is to unpublish the content, in this case an album from the website.
- Login or go to to sites and then navigate over to the content you want to unpublish, in this case, an album.
- Once you have found the content you want to remove, select it.
Now you unpublish the content.
- Choose Manage Publication
- Then select Unpublish as the action
- For scheduling, choose Now
- Choose Next
- Choose the Unpublish button
You will see a green message appear that the resources have been unpublished.
Unpublish the assets
Now we have to unpublish the assets.
- Navigate over to assets by clicking on the Adobe Experience Manager logo and then choose Assets
- Navigate to the location you noted earlier.
- Now select the assets you want to remove, either the folder they are in, or the assets themselves
- Then unpublish those assets in the same way as you unpublished the content before.
At this point, the content and the assets should no longer be live on your website. You can delete them if they are no longer needed.
